Thames

I only knew of Thames because I met a photographer at the foot of a waterfall near Karangahake and he insisted that I visit. I was not disappointed! Thames can be overlooked as being the city that's merely the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsular but if time allows, it's absolutely worth stopping off to explore the coastal walkway. With a range of distances to cover - you can follow the path from one end of the city to the other. On a clear day, you can get beautiful views of the water and enjoy the colourful street art along the way. There's also the historical aspect, you can admire the old architecture around the place and even pan for gold at the gold mining museum. To see more of the old Burke Street Wharf, click here.
