Jess is a Wanderer in Wanaka

The Queen's Birthday. Not actually in June but the first weekend is when NZ celebrates the monarch's latest milestone with a long weekend. Jess is a Wanderer took advantage of the extra day off and headed to Wanaka in search of some wintry views.

I arrived in Wanaka fairly late on Friday night. I'd somehow booked myself into a three-bed apartment at a motel. It was great to have so much space to myself. I headed out straight away to get some nighttime photos of 'That Wanaka Tree'.

The following day, I decided to head out for a drive to see what I could find. Amongst some truly beautiful views, I also climbed Mount Iron. Definitely not as taxing as it sounds - it takes around 90 minutes to do the loop track and provides some beautiful sights of the town and lake below.

After the weather changed quite drastically, I took a drive down to Arrowtown in search of more good views, some homemade fudge and a walk around the former gold mining town.

There wasn't much of a sunset but I headed down to the lake to see if 'That Wanaka Tree' was putting on a show.

See my other post for the hike up to Roy's Peak.
