Tongariro National Park

When people hear of Tongariro they automatically think of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - a famous 19.4km walk that takes you through Tongariro National Park in the centre of New Zealand's North Island. A fairly easy walk once you survive the Devil's staircase that offers some spectacular views... on a good day. If you're not keen to conquer the alpine crossing, the national park has plenty of other (shorter, more friendly)walks that take you to DOC huts, waterfalls and lakes galore.
