Jess is a Wanderer at the Three Sisters

Jess is a Wanderer was searching for the infamous three sisters - three rocks which have been eroded away from the coastline and now stand on the beach near Tongaporutu. They are also near a large rock-mass known as 'the elephant'. One bit of advice: check the tide or you may be disappointed!

Depending on the weather - which so many things in the Taranaki region do depend on - you might get to see some almighty waves smashing into the cliffs. If that's the case, it's no wonder that so many rock formations have appeared on this stretch of coast due to the sheer force brought by the waves.

To begin with, we went in search of the white cliffs which is around a 17km return walk across farmland. Unfortunately, the walk was long and tedious and we turned back before even reaching the coast and seeing the cliffs. Nonetheless, we appreciated these sandy-coloured ones in the distance!

Unfortunately, because we were focused on snapping the clear mountain vista, we didn't account for the tides so when it came to capturing the three sisters and elephant, we couldn't quite get down to the beach. Can you see the elephant in the pic below? Or is it a case of really stretching your imagination?

Here are some more pics as we managed to find a footpath opposite which gave us some kind of good views:
