Melaka is a former colonial city on the west coast of Malaysia and it's quirky!

I never even new Melaka existed until I was on a full bus bound for Singapore and everyone, bar three of us, alighted in this city! My curiosity peaked, I decided to investigate for myself on the way back to Kuala Lumpur.

Initially staying for two nights, I actually extended because I wanted to really take my time and see the city properly. I love wandering a new place without feeling rushed and taking time to get off the beaten path, so an extra night would allow just that. I could also sort out the mounting mass of laundry I'd been carrying with me for over two weeks as it was in an appalling state!

With oodles of street art, some fascinating architecture and being a UNESCO historical site, there's plenty to see and do. Walk along the river, meander through the busyness of Chinatown and Jonker Street, at the weekend visit the night market, walk to the top of St. Paul's Hill for some great city views, head over to Melaka Straits Mosque and I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
