Dahab: A Red Sea town with an amazing atmosphere.
Located only an hour from Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab is in an entirely different league of its own. With a very bedouin feel, friendly locals and delicious food. It's the perfect place to relax or scuba dive.
Dahab in General
Ask any expat living in Egypt and they'll have no end of tales to tell about Dahab. It's Red-Sea-front location is perfect if you're looking to top up the tan. There are a selection of bars and restaurants offering everything from fresh fish to traditional Egyptian food. I recommend Caravan restaurant particularly!
Dahab is just an hour's drive from Sharm el Sheikh airport and much less touristy. The scenic drive through the mountains is especially lovely and Dahab has a wealth of things to do - quad biking, wake boarding, kite-surfing, diving...
Adventure
Dahab is huge on snorkelling and diving. Egypt has some of the most beautiful dive spots in the world and people travel from across the globe to dive there.
If you're looking for something more traditional then you can join the Bedouins in the mountains for singing, dancing and dinner by moonlight around a campfire.
For those more adventurous, take a trip out into the desert and spend a few nights camping out under the stars with a Bedouin guide.
Alternatively, take a daytrip to Petra; Jordan, Mount Sinai or Ras Mohamed for some secluded snorkelling.
Relaxing
There are many large resorts offering everything from sunbeds to snorkelling and watersports. Dahab isn't very luxurious but there is something to suit everyone.
Whether you hire a yacht for the day, chill out on a sunbed or go into the sea on a pedalo - it's the perfect place to relax.
In the evenings, sit back with a shisha pipe and a cocktail from one of the many bars. The perfect way to end a hard day lying in the sun.
Dahab is a favourite place of mine and somewhere I recommend that everyone visits.
