10 Reasons why you should visit Egypt.
I have lived in Egypt as a British expat for almost five years. I moved here towards the end of the 2011 Revolution. Since then, though frustrating at times, I've come to appreciate the differences between the culture here and that which I was brought up with in the UK. Egypt is most definitely a home away from home for me. I've put this post together as I hope to inspire people to see Egypt for the culturally diverse, historically rich, friendly and welcoming place which I have come to love.
1. The Pyramids at Giza
It almost goes without saying but of course, the pyramids are a must see on your Egyptian adventure! Step back in time and marvel at the structures which have impressed and puzzled architects around the world for so long. You can even take a quad bike and race through the deserts with a priceless backdrop behind you!
2. Khan El Khalili Market
Get lost in the famous old streets of Cairo's Khan El Khalii market. There's no better way to spend an evening. Enjoy the banter with local sellers or sit and watch the world go by whilst sipping tea at a cafe.
3. Take a Felluca Ride
Take a felluca ride down the River Nile. Relying solely on the wind to power you, it's a great way to see the city sights. You can even take your own snacks and drinks on board. Boats can be hired for as little as five English pounds per hour!
4. Watch the sunset
Relax and unwind by watching one of Egypt's famous sunsets. There's something about the silhouette of a mosque in the distance which makes for an amazing photograph.
5. The Red Sea
Egypt has some of the world's most famous sites for diving and snorkelling. The Red Sea has an amazing underwater world that has to be seen to be believed.
6. Egypt's 'Other' Pyramids
Did you know that not far from the historically infamous site of Giza, there are other pyramids at Dashur and Sakkara? Namely, the Wonky Pyramid, the Step Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. Often quieter than the Giza sructures, you can have the place to yourself during visits.
7. The White Desert
Visit the infamous White Desert and let your imagination go wild by seeing how many different objects and animals you can see in the historical rock formations.
8. Sand Dunes in Siwa
Enjoy zooming up and down monstrous sand dunes in the desert surrounding Siwa. Although it takes a long time to get to, it's totally worth the journey for the experience.
9. The Valley of the Kings
Take a Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor where you can visit numerous temples and The Valley of the Kings. Walk in the footsteps of Howard Carter as you wander into the depths of King Tut's tomb. Enhance the experience with a hot air balloon ride.
10. There's Something for Everyone
Whether you enjoy lying on the beach, partaking in more adventurous sports such as kite surfing or sand boarding or mingling with locals, you really can have a truly memorable experience in Egypt.

I'm currently touring the famous archaeological sites and it's the clear lack of tourists in these areas which has encouraged me to put this post into writing. It's clear that the guides and sellers are desperate for business. If I speak honestly, I definitely see the situation as a catch-22. With businesses struggling, the sellers are using more stubborn and forceful tactics to make deals with tourists. However, this approach is not favoured with visitors and creates a negative portrayal of Egypt, thus discouraging potential future tourists from visiting. Is there a solution to this problem? Maybe. Maybe not. One thing is for sure, if you're willing to give it a try, not take anyone who approaches you too seriously and enjoy a spot of banter, I guarantee you will enjoy your visit.
